Shelter Manager Company: The Coastal Humane Society, Inc Location: Brunswick, Maine Type: Full-Time Salary: Commensurate with experience Start Date: January/February 2008
Duties include: oversee all shelter (non-administrative)
operations; coordinate and administer medical care to our shelter
animals, as well as assist the Veterinarian in the medical
care and maintenance of all medical records;
coordinate foster and hospice programs; initiate innovative projects and programs;
supervise, train, evaluate, and schedule animal care staff; counsel adopters and potential adopters;
field questions regarding animal care; order medical supplies, other tasks and duties as needed.
Qualifications: 3-5 years as a shelter manager, vet, or shelter animal care technician, 3-5 years of proven managerial success, strong interpersonal and communication skills, highly organized and hard-working; the ability to maintain a friendly/positive/cheerful demeanor in a fast-paced and demanding work environment, the ability to multi-task amid constant interruption, sense of humor and great compassion, maturity, computer proficiency, desire to work with the public and as part of a team, and a deep love of animals. Coordinator The Maine Federation of Humane Societies, a statewide network of companion animal welfare organizations, is seeking a Coordinator to help us achieve our mission of supporting animal shelters; promoting the adoption of homeless animals and responsible pet ownership; and ending pet overpopulation through education, outreach, and advocacy.
Coordinator reports to a volunteer board and must be able to work effectively with leaders of shelters with different philosophies, resources and capacity levels. Ideal candidate will have experience working in animal welfare and be effective working independently and with a wide variety of stakeholders. A sense of humor and ability to be nonjudgmental are both essential. Candidate must be motivated and able to work productively with a minimum of supervision. Candidate will work in a home office or secure donated office space. We appreciate the generous offer of this station to host a Featured Pet segment both on their Morning Show as well as on their website www.myfoxmaine.com FOX produces a spot each week with a featured pet's photos as well as suitable music. A voice over reads the decription of the pet with pertinent information. That voice over offers a link to our website. The spot runs throughout the FOX Monring News which airs from 6 A.M. to 9 A.M. Monday through Friday as well as during any times available throughout the day. The collaboration with this station's news director/senior web producer is appreciated.
