Draco

This handsome boy is Draco, a 2 yr old male white Shepherd mix. Draco was surrendered to the shelter because his owners couldn't care for him any more. They recommend that he go to a home with a fenced in yard or buried invisible fence because he has been know to take off on explorations when the opportunity arises.Leash walks (Draco would make a great hiking companion) or runs would also work.
He knows sit, down, give paw, and stay.

Draco is house trained and used to being left alone for up to 9 hours. He has not lived with cats or other dogs, so he can be tested for either.Draco has lived with children between the ages of 10-14 and was reported to be gentle and friendly. He sometimes suffers from carsickness, so it would help to withhold food for a few hours before any trips. He likes to chew on hard or soft toys. Vacuums and brooms frighten him.

Over all, this wonderful dog is a playful, loving, and social dog.

Picasso

My name is Picasso and I am a 2 year old male Australian Cattle dog mix. I came here all the way from Georgia where I was saved from being euthanized due to over crowding in a high-kill shelter. My background information is unknown to the staff here. If you know anything about my breed it is that I have loads of energy! I’m a very curious little boy and I must have my nose in everything. Since I am such an active guy, I should not live in a small apartment. A fenced in yard or electric fence with lots of room to run around would a plus. I can be dog tested if you are interested. Because of my breed and my tendency to herd, cats probably wouldn’t be a good thing in my new home. I have been medically checked out and have nothing wrong with me health wise. Obedience training would be very beneficial for me, ask the front desk here about when the next class is! Held right in the lobby!

(Dogs transferred to CHS from other shelters are charged an additional $50 rescue fee.)

Toby

Toby is a 4 year old, large labrador retriever/moose mix. He is very playful, and Polly, our wonderful animal photographer, noted that he was a bit "goofy" while she was taking his pictures! He likes to carry his leash, and loves to chase a ball. Polly noted that Toby would slyly nudge the ball away with his feet whenever she tried to pick it up! I think we may have a character here!

Toby was surrendered to the shelter because his family moved to a small apartment. He also began showing signs of aggression towards other dogs. He may not go to a home with cats or other dogs. He loves swimming, playing with tennis balls and going on walks or runs. He can be a bit pushy so needs an owner who will be a leader as well as a friend. He walks well with a 'Gentle Leader' harness and knows the commands 'sit', 'lie down' and 'come.' He also knows 'fetch' and 'wait'. Toby is house trained and used to being left alone for 4-8 hours a day. Toby can be stubborn, but is also loyal, affectionate, high spirited and very friendly.

Amber (Special Needs)

Amber is a very sweet 6-7 yr old white, pink and brown Greyhound Boxer mix who needs a very special owner. She has Addison's disease which is caused by a lower than normal production of hormones by the adrenal glands near the kidneys. Addison's can be managed with a daily dose of Prednisone and monthly blood work. As she gets older Amber will need shots. With appropriate treatment, dogs with Addison's can live long and happy lives. In fact Amber has been a friendly, loving , sweet and energetic family dog. She has won the hearts of the shelter staff. She knows sit, paw, down and up. The best environment for Amber would be low key, consistent and as stress free as possible- with no cats, no other dogs and with an owner who will not leave her alone all day.

Amber is housetrained and absolutely loves to go for car rides! She is a gentle and lovely girl, and although she has lived beautifully with an autistic boy, she is also an athletic, rambunctious girl, who can unknowingly knock over "little ones" when she becomes excited. For this reason she is better suited for a home with adults or older children only. Amber is a strong and natural athlete - she loves to run around outdoors and would make a great hiking companion!

Amber is in great need of a kind and special person who is wililng to deal with her health needs. As she becomes older she will need a shot every 4 to 6 weeks - other than that she is just like any other dog - strong and playful!! She is a real love with a heart of gold! Because of her special needs, the adoption fee will be waived for the right home.

Jada

This precious angel is Jada, a 7 year old female Rottweiler mix. Jada loves walks, car rides, knows sit, lie, down, give paw, stay and come.
If Jada looks a little wistful in her photos it may be because she lived with one owner for 61/2 yrs who reluctantly gave her up because life got too busy.

Conan

Conan is a beautiful 4 year old American Pitbull mix. Unfortunately , Conan's owners could not have him in their apartment, so he was brought to CHS. Conan is a wonderful dog. He's well socialized and has lived with children - ages infant and up. He loves people, but cannot live with another dog as he is very protective of toys and food. He's OK playing with other dogs as long as toys are not involved - so doggie play dates are fine! He also sees cats as fast moving toys, so no kitties in his new home. Conan is crate trained and knows the commands sit, lie down, give paw, roll over and understands fetch, stay and come. He does well on his own at home. (Conan is affectionately known here as "'ol blue eyes", because of his strikingly beautiful blue eyes!)
